IN THE FIELD

From steep slopes and unstable ground to commercial civil work and specialty geotechnical construction, Dig Earth takes on projects where planning, problem-solving and execution matter. Explore a selection of completed work, or open the full case studies for a closer look at the challenges, solutions and results.

FOUNDATION UPGRADE

Braced Excavation + Foundation Strengthening

To strengthen the foundations for a building remodel, Dig Earth excavated beneath the existing structure while working around columns and low overhead clearance.

The crew used staged excavation, steel walers and pipe struts for temporary shoring, and compact low-headroom drilling equipment to reach the foundation locations and prepare them for the upgrade—all while keeping the existing structure in place.

MID MOUNTAIN LODGE

Tamarack Resort | Donnelly, Idaho | Micropiles + Deep Foundations

What started as conventional footing excavation quickly became a deeper foundation challenge when the proposed deck was found to sit over uncontrolled fill rather than reliable native ground. Dig Earth proposed a pressure-grouted hollow-bar micropile system to bypass the unsuitable fill and transfer the loads into competent soil.

Dig Earth installed 56 hollow-bar micropiles, each designed for a minimum allowable axial load of 50,000 pounds, while working within the constraints of a mid-mountain site and tight access around the existing lodge.

TAPPAN FALLS COURT

Tamarack Resort | Donnelly, Idaho | Landslide + Utility Reconstruction

A major landslide beneath Tappan Falls Court washed out the roadway, damaged critical water and sewer infrastructure, and cut off vehicle access to two homes.

The permanent repair included engineered drainage, deeper slope reconstruction, compacted structural fill, roadway rebuilding, and completion of the lower-slope buttress. Dig Earth also returned after the emergency phase to complete the full reconstruction.

TAMARACK RESORT EMPLOYEE HOUSING

Tamarack Resort | Donnelly, Idaho | Site Development + Civil

What began as a modular relocation project quickly became a major site-development challenge when snowmelt revealed saturated ground, extensive unsuitable soils, and difficult access conditions.

The Dig Earth team processed and repurposed several thousand tons of exisiting demolition concrete as structural site material while coordinating the phased relocation of nine intact modular buildings. The finished site included stabilized access, sewer, water, storm drainage, paving, and a complete employee-housing layout.

RETAINING WALL SYSTEMS

Tamarack Resort | Donnelly, Idaho | Retaining + Site Stabilization

Retaining walls on steep mountain sites start with what happens behind and below the wall. On one Tamarack project, Dig Earth prepared and constructed engineered Redi-Rock gravity and reinforced wall systems reaching up to 16ft 6 inches.

On a later Tamarack Resort homesite, Dig Earth adapted the planned retaining system in the field, installing supplied ecology blocks while continuing the surrounding pad, structural fill, and drainage work. Both projects demonstrate Dig Earths ability on complex mountain construction.

SPRINGFIELD TUNGSTEN MINE

Yellow Pine, Idaho | Remote Access + Civil Construction

At approximately 7,700 feet near Yellow Pine, Dig Earth was brought in to restore access to the historic Springfield Mine through nearly 12 miles of wildfire downfall, steep rocky terrain and seasonal snowdrifts reaching 10-12 feet.

As conditions changed, the crew adapted the plan, using a compact excavator, tracked equipment and staged access systems to reach the mine and establish ground-based access for field crews while snow still covered portions of the route.

URBAN DEVELOPMENT - Special Project

Honolulu, HI | CFA Foundation + Drilling

Dig Earth mobilized a Casagrande B175 XP foundation drill and CFA tooling to support work at a compact Honolulu development surrounded by nearby buildings and overhead utilities.

The team staged and repositioned the equipment and coordinated drilling with concrete delivery and spoil handling, helping provide the foundation crew with additional drilling capacity.
